The A's Back In Philadelphia?

There was an article in Philly Mag this week that posed an interesting question. Now that the Phillies have led MLB in attendance, could the city support two baseball teams?

The question was prompted by the unrest surrounding the Oakland A’s, who are of course a franchise who started in Philadelphia. The author talked a bit about the history of the team in Philadelphia and interviewed a fan leading the charge to bring the A’s back.

There’s no chance it would ever happen, but I think it is a worthwhile read anyway.

Mitch Williams was also quoted in the story and summed up my reaction pretty well.

“I can’t see Oakland moving back to Philadelphia,” Williams said. “There isn’t another team that could come in and survive. The Phillies have die-hard fans, who wouldn’t pack up their bags and root for another team. One baseball team in Philadelphia is enough, especially when they’re a World Series contender.”
