There was an article in Philly Mag this week that posed an interesting question. Now that the Phillies have led MLB in attendance, could the city support two baseball teams?
↵The question was prompted by the unrest surrounding the Oakland A’s, who are of course a franchise who started in Philadelphia. The author talked a bit about the history of the team in Philadelphia and interviewed a fan leading the charge to bring the A’s back.
↵There’s no chance it would ever happen, but I think it is a worthwhile read anyway.
↵Mitch Williams was also quoted in the story and summed up my reaction pretty well.
↵↵“I can’t see Oakland moving back to Philadelphia,†Williams said. “There isn’t another team that could come in and survive. The Phillies have die-hard fans, who wouldn’t pack up their bags and root for another team. One baseball team in Philadelphia is enough, especially when they’re a World Series contender.â€
