Jim Thome Preparing To Play First Base This Season

Jim Thome has only played four games at first base in the last 6 years, but with Ryan Howard a question mark to be ready to start next season, he may be asked to play there part time early on. Thome says he doesn’t know how his body will handle it, but he’s preparing himself to play the field.

“To be honest, I don’t know how my back is going to react because I haven’t played there in seven years,” Thome said.

“The one thing I will say is that the work I put in, nothing will be unturned,” he said. “I’ll put in everything I can and then we’ll just have to see how my body reacts once we get there.”

“I’ve done more stretching, pilates, yoga, and really tried to focus in on my flexibility,” he said. “Obviously my core work has stayed the same for my back. I’ve been doing a little more running. The last couple years I’ve had some foot issues that have kind of cleared up.”
