Big East Power Rankings Week 8: Owls come in at No. 5

Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer has the Temple Owls ranked No. 5 overall in his Big East Power Rankings.

Rob Christy-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Temple Owls have moved up one spot into the No. 5 position in the Week 8 power rankings from Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The boost in the poll can be attributed to Temple's' victory over Connecticut on Saturday, which improved the Owls' record in the Big East to 2-0. While Pompey was willing to give the school credit for winning consecutive conference games in the Big East for the first time in school history, he made sure to note that the wins came against less-than-stellar opponents. In his opinion, this weekend's home matchup against Rutgers (who he has ranked as No. 1 in the Big East) will be the true test as to how talented Temple is.

Here is what Pompey had to say about the Owls:

The Owls are no longer considered the league's worst team. However, Temple still has a lot of work do before being considered a conference-title contender.
