St. Joe's vs American: Hawks look to continue strong start

The Hawks will get their fifth test of the year in a non-conference bout with American.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

On Wednesday night, the St. Joe's Hawks and American Eagles will battle it out in Michael J. Hagan Arena.

St. Joe's enters the contest 3-1 on the year and looking like a team that could make some noise as the season progresses. The Hawks already beat the No. 20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 79-70, back on Nov. 16 in overtime, making some pundits pay attention.

Guard Carl Jones has led the team in scoring with 18.5 points per game, while forward Ronald Roberts Jr. is averaging a double-double with 13.5 points and 10.8 rebounds. The combination has been lethal, with St. Joe's being able to play a bit from the inside and the perimeter.

American is 2-3 and riding a two-game losing streak after falling to the Florida Atlantic Owls and San Francisco Dons.

The Eagles are challenged offensively to be kind, ranking 340th in the nation out of 347 teams in rebounding (27.8) and scoring (53.4) per game.
