Flyers Vs. Islanders: Philadelphia Needs Second-Tier Players To Step Up

The Philadelphia Flyers enter the season's stretch run as the current No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, and CSN Philadelphia reporter John Boruk cautions that the team needs peripheral players to step up.

"This team is really reliant on guys like Scott Hartnell, Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds -- who's really played very well over the past month, month and a half. Some of these other guys who have obviously been in the shadows need to step to the forefront. James van Reimsdyk. Danny Briere hasn't scored in six weeks," said Boruk.

"Some of these guys who have been silent the majority of the year - this is their time to step up," he added. "We're 20 games into it. You mentioned Claude Giroux didn't have a shot last night. Well, teams are buckling down defensively, and you can see it. That's part of Claude Giroux's frustration - he is now drawing all the attention, and when that typically happens, secondary scorers have to be there."
