Flyers Vs Penguins: Philly Wins 3-2 On Scott Hartnell's Last Second OT Goal

The Penguins 11 game win streak came to end this afternoon in Philadelphia as the Flyers fought back from a 2-0 deficit with two third period goals and the winner in OT. Scott Hartnell was the first star of the game as he netted not only the equalizer, but also the game winner off a great Danny Briere feed with just 0.9 of a second left on the clock.

The last two periods of the game were a mirror image of one another as the Penguins dominated in the second, building a two goal lead in the process. The Flyers would register just two shots in the entire period. However, something must have happened in the locker room prior to the third because the Flyers came out with fire. Kimmo Timonen cut the lead to one with a power play goal just :30 seconds into the third and Scotty Hartnell equalized four minutes later. Claude Giroux notched his 57th and 58th assists on those two goals.

Regulation would end with the game tied at 2 and despite decent chances on either side it appeared as though it would head to a shooutout, which did not bode well for the home team. The Penguins have been excellent on shootouts this year, while the Flyers have struggled. However, with just second left Kimmo Timonen would hit a streaking Danny Briere, who pulled up in the Pens zone and found Hartnell with a cross ice pass that the forward would not waste. He blasted it base Marc-Andre Fleury for the game winner and his 35th goal of the season.

Ilya Bryzgalov turned in another big effort with 38 saves on the afternoon.

The win leaves the Flyers just a point back of Pittsburgh and two back of the Rangers in the Atlantic division. The Atlantic is home to the top four teams in the conference in terms of points.
