It was pretty plain to anyone that watched the Philadelphia Eagles last year that their main weakness was at the linebacker and safety positions. Those two also happened to be the teams’ youngest positions, which Andy Reid admitted this morning was a mistake in hindsight.
↵"We had young guys there, and so I knew that going in," Reid said. "The plan that I had I didn’t execute it very well. Right? Thaty’s my responsibility. I goofed on that one, right? I expected the young guys on defense to get where they’re getting by the end of the season sooner, particularly the middle of the defense — linebackers and safeties.
↵Andy seems to have learned from his mistake, with the proof being the trade for two time pro bowl linebacker DeMeco Ryans this offseason. The team has not made any moves at safety this offseason, but give that they’ve invested a pair of 2nd round picks in the position the last two seasons, the Eagles will likely rely on the development of guys like Nate Allen, Kurt Coleman & Jaiquwan Jarrett. Allen especially was playing very well over the last stretch of 2012.
