Though both NHL franchises don't need introductions, the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins could be getting to know each other a bit better over the next couple of weeks. And it all starts Sunday, when the Flyers visit the Penguins in a inter-state rival contest at the CONSOL Energy Center (12:30 p.m. ET on NBC).
This will be the first of two contests between the to Pennsylvania rivals in the next week, which will close out the regular season. And if projections are correct, the two teams could be facing each other in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Currently, the Penguins sit in fourth place in the standings, three points ahead of the fifth-place Flyers. Philadelphia enters Sunday's contest leading the season series 3-1, with its last victory, 3-2, coming in a thrilling-overtime contest on March 18.
On Friday, the Flyers were edged by the Ottawa Senators 4-3 in a shootout.
