2012 Preakness: Breaking Down The Post Positions

The post positions for the 2012 Preakness are set. In a somewhat odd, though perhaps unsurprising twist, Bodemeister is the favorite to win at Pimlico over Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another. Matt Gardner of And Down The Stretch They Come took time out to break down the favorites and their post positions.

Bodemeister earned 8-5 odds on the morning line. I'll Have Another was second with 5-2 odds. Gardner believes that Bodemeister's pure speed could be the difference in the race, especially if the horse is able to take the lead out of the gate. I'll Have Another's No. 9 post should give him a clean shot at winning, however, especially if he can stay close to Bodemeister early on.

Went The Day Well and Creative Cause, fourth and fifth place finishers at the Kentucky Derby, respectively, are the third betting favorites to win with 6-1 odds.
