The final practice before the 2012 Indy 500, Miller Light Carb Day, took place Friday afternoon. The results put to rest some concerns that the teams running Honda engines would be in for a tough race on Sunday. Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon, both members of Target Chip Ganassi Racing, were the only two drivers to top 222mph. Franchitti just beat out Dixon for the fastest time, with a 222.360 mph lap to Dixon's 222.274. Franchitti admitted he was relieved at the results. Via ESPN:
One of our first worries was to see if we have a fast car, and I think we've done that after our struggles in qualifying," he said. "We've got a new Honda engine in there that seems a good bit better. It would have been nice to have those gains in qualifying!
In total, three of the top five drivers were driving Honda engines. The top five:
1) Dario Franchitti (Honda)
2) Scott Dixon (Honda)
3) Marco Andretti (Chevrolet)
4) Takuma Sato (Honda)
5) Ryan Briscoe (Chevrolet)
