2012 Kentucky Derby: Kentucky Oaks Delayed By Storms, More Bad Weather Predicted For Saturday

The 2012 Kentucky Oaks, a Grade I race for three-year-old fillies, has been delayed by stormy weather in the Louisville area. The patrons in the infield were asked to leave the infield due to the inclement weather at Churchill Downs.

During the broadcast on NBC Sports Network, Bob Costas stated that the Kentucky Oaks was now being aimed at a 6:20 p.m. Eastern start. The original start time was scheduled for 5:45 p.m. The races before the Oaks are going to resume at 5:30 p.m.

More thunderstorms are expected on Saturday which could impact the way the 2012 Kentucky Derby is run if the track turns sloppy. There is currently a 40% chance of Thunderstorms tomorrow. The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for 6:24 p.m. on Saturday.
