U.S. Open Golf 2012: Tiger Woods & Jim Furyk Tied Heading Into Weekend

Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk & David Toms all claim a share of the lead as the 3rd round of the 2012 U.S. Open Championship gets underway this morning at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. The trio sit at 1-under on the notoriously tough course.

"This golf course is just so tricky out there. It's so fast," said Woods after his round yesterday.

"With this setup and as firm and as fast as it is, fun might not be the first word that comes out,: said Furyk. "It's draining both mentally and physically. You have to be on top of your game the whole time."

David Toms wouldn't go so far as to say the course is unfair, but he says it makes players look silly sometimes.

"It will make you do some crazy things trying to hit shots to a front pin from 220 yards that you come up 30 or 40 yards short of the green but you know if you land it on the green you're going to be chipping from the back. So things like that will make you look kind of silly sometimes, but it is a fair test."

Furyk says he doesn't know exactly what to expect out of the Olympic as this weekend wears on.

"It might be firming up a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if the greens are just a touch quicker today, especially this afternoon. But it's definitely changed from Monday, Tuesday to now. I expect we'll probably see a little bit of a transformation to the weekend after today as well."

The first pairing tees off at 9:15 a.m. this morning. As for the leaders, David Toms starts at 2:55 p.m. while the final pair of Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk leaves 10 minutes later at 3:05
