Phillies Vs. Blue Jays: Philadelphia Unable To Avoid Sweep In 6-2 Loss

The Philadelphia Phillies were swept in their three game series against the Tornto Blue Jays, losing by a score of 6-2 Sunday afternoon. The Phillies drop to 31-37 with the loss.

Kyle Kendrick was the starter for the Phillies, and he was unable to improve on his last outing as he gave up six runs on eight hits through 6.1 innings. Jacob Diekman and Jonathan Papelbon gave up no additional runs out of the bullpen, but without support from the offense it was no help.

John Mayberry Jr. and Shane Victorino both had good days at the plate, with Mayberry going 3-4 and Victorino 2-4. Mayberry had a solo home run for one of the Phillies' two runs, with the other coming on a solo home run from Jim Thome. The Phillies did put two on in the ninth, but it amounted to nothing when a pinch hitting Mike Fontenot grounded into a fielder's choice. The loss was the third straight to the Blue Jays and the 11th of Philadelphia's last 14.

The Phillies return home on Tuesday, hosting the Colorodo Rockies in the first of a three game series. The game is scheduled for 7:00pm EDT.
