2012 U.S. Open Golf Results: Webb Simpson Wins The U.S. Open

After four excruciating and yet exhilarating rounds of golf, Webb Simpson can finally relax and rest easy with his first major victory. Simpson really had to earn it in the 2012 U.S. Open at the Olympic Club of San Francisco, where the course did favors for no one.

Simpson won with a fantastic final round on Sunday to polish off a struggling Jim Furyk, who just couldn't finish out the tournament in style. Graeme McDowell was right there all weekend, but he couldn't find a way to defeat Simpson in the end.

Furyk, a native of West Chester, PA, ended up in a tie for fourth. It was tough to watch Furyk down the stretch missing badly on multiple shots. The effort was there but unfortunately the execution wasn't.

Tiger Woods never did make any noise on Sunday. After looking like a world-beater the first two days, Woods had a horrid 75 on Saturday.

The real story was Simpson, who found a way to get it done despite trailing most of the day. Much of his success can be attributed to his sensational run of four birdies in five holes coming around the turn.
