French Open Results: Semifinals Set After David Ferrer, Rafael Nadal Advance On Wednesday

Andy Murray is out of the 2012 French Open. Murray, the fourth-ranked player in the world, lost his quarterfinal match to No. 6 David Ferrer on Wednesday at Roland Garros. Ferrer beat Murray in four sets by a final score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2. This is the third grad slam semifinal for the 30-year-old Ferrer and his first in the French Open.

Rafael Nadal had no trouble in the other men's singles quarterfinal match on Wednesday. Nadal, ranked second, took out No. 12 Nicolas Almagro in three sets by a final of 7-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Wednesday's action sets up a Friday match between Nadal and Ferrer. That figures to be a tough match for Ferrer who has faced Nadal 15 times on clay courts and lost all of those matches. In the other men's semifinal match, No. 3 Roger Federer takes on No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

On the women's side, No. 2 Maria Sharapova beat No. 12 Kaia Kanepi in two sets. No. 4 Petra Kvitova beat Yaroslava Shvedova in two sets. Sharapova and Kvitova will face each other in the women's semifinals. The other women's singles semifinal match features No. 6 Samantha Stosur versus No. 21 Sara Errani.
