French Open Results: Novak Djokovic And Rafael Nadal To Meet In Final

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will meet in the final of the 2012 French Open, after both men won their semi-final matches in three straight sets. No. 1 seed Djokovic beat 2009 Champion and no. 3 seed Roger Federer, while no. 2 seed Nadal crushed no. 6 seed David Ferrer.

Federer had 46 unforced errors in his matchup with Djokovic, and Djokovic was quick to capitalize. He won the first set 6-4, the second 7-5, and the third 6-3. If Djokovic can defeat Nadal in the final, he will become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four majors at the same time.

That will be no small task, as Nadal looked dominant in his win over David Ferrer, winning 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1. At one point he played a stroke while still on the ground after sprawling for a shot, and he has his own history to make. Another Roland Garros title would be his seventh, a record. Nadal doesn't intend to coast on Friday's performance, though. Via French Open:

"I did almost everything right," said Nadal. "But I don’t believe in perfection. It does not exist. You can always play better. I am not thinking I am in the final without losing a set; I am just thinking I am in the final. Experience has taught me you can lose when you are playing fantastic; you can win when you are not playing that well. Last year I had the impression I didn’t really play that well, whereas this year I am playing really well."

The contest to see which man will make history takes place on Sunday. The full tournament scoreboard can be found here.
