A total of 35 athletes competing in the 2012 Summer Olympics call the state of Pennsylvania home. Only New York has more residents competing in the games this year. Among those athletes is cyclist Lauren Tamayo, who hails from Barto.

Tamayo, 28, is currently a cyclist based in Asheville, NC. She was honored as USA Cycling's athlete of the year for her record-breaking performance in a competition in Mexico. She is part of the cycling track team competing in London at this year's games.

The British and Australian track teams enter the games as the favorites. The British swept up the medal categories in 2008, winning gold medals in seven of 10 events and 12 of 30 medals overall. Australia took 15 medals in the world championships in Melbourne this year.

Tamayo is part of the team pursuit event. Squads of three riders compete against each other over a distance of 3 km.
