Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz expects to play on Sunday in the team's finale against the Braves, as Philly tries to avoid a sweep at the hands of their NL East Division rival. Ruiz has struggled with pain in the back of his foot (mild plantar fasciitis, according to manager Charlie Manuel) for a couple of weeks now, and didn't play in Saturday's game as he missed his second out of the last three contests.
It was especially a blow to Ruiz considering his record this season as the league's co-leader of most games played at catcher along with Cardinals' catcher Yadier Molina. The Phillies' schedule is going to help Ruiz rest that foot, with off days giving him the luxury of sitting four out of six days.
