Andre Iguodala A Candidate For Team USA Olympic Spot

With the 2012 U.S. Olympic basketball team set to announce their 12-man roster on Staurday, Philadelphia 76ers forward Andre Iguodala is one of five players vying for one of the final two spots on the team. Iguodala is going up against Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay, James Harden and Eric Gordon for the last roster spots according to John Finger of CSNPhilly.com.

While it seemed like Davis would miss the Olympics due to an ankle injury suffered earlier in the week, Davis made it down to Las Vegas for training camp and appears set to take one of the spots if healthy due to the team's glaring need for another post player.

That leaves just one spot open, and according to Finger it could come down to Iguodala and Harden. While Harden's versatility on both ends of the floor make him a good option, the coaching staff are really high on Iguodala from his time with the national team during the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Iguodala was the defensive stopper in the starting lineup during the team's gold medal run in Turkey, and was one of the glue guys in the locker room.

While his minutes will most assuredly go down in London with players like LeBron James ahead of him, that locker room presence just might be enough to give Iguodala that last roster spot.
