Rory McIlroy won his second career major by the same ridiculous margin as his first: his eight-stroke victory at Kiawah Island set a new record for largest margin of victory at the PGA Championship, allowing the talented 23-year-old to claim the No. 1 ranking in the world in style.
McIlroy recorded no birdies on his final 23 holes and shot a whopping 11-under on his final 11 holes to finish at -13. The runner-up, David Lynn, was not even close to being in striking distance way back at 5-under. Ian Poulter had the lead down to two strokes on the back nine at one point, but stumbled to the finish with four bogeys on his last six holes while McIlroy didn't sweat the standings.
West Chester native Jim Furyk did not have a good outing after blowing a late lead at the last event before the PGA Championship, the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, when he coughed up a last hole lead to Keegan Bradley. He finished in a tie for 42nd at 4-over. Tiger Woods had held the lead at one point at 5-under, but couldn't break par on either of his weekend round for the fourth time in a major this year - the first time he has ever done that - and finished in a tie for 11th at 2-under.
