The live draw ceremony for the 2012 U.S. Open occurred on Thursday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The tournament is set to begin on Monday.

Philadelphia native Julia Cohen will face a qualifying player in the first round, while Philadelphia resident Varvara Lepchenko will meet Mathilde Johansson of France.

Other notable first round match-ups in the women's bracket include, Kim Clijsters facing Victoria Duval; Samantha Stouser and Petra Martic; Maria Sharapova against Melinda Czink; Caroline Wozniacki facing Irina-Camelia Begu; and Serena Williams against Coco Vandeweghe.

In the men's bracket, the potential for later round thrillers exist as defending champion Novak Djokovic, 2009 champion Juan Martin del Porto, David Ferrier and Janko Tipsarevic are all in the same section of the field.

In addition, Roger Federer and Andy Murray could meet in the semifinal, which would be a rematch of the finals at Wimbledon and the London Olympics. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Tomas Berdych are also in the section.

2010 champion Rafal Nadal will not compete in the tournament due to a knee issue.
