Nick Watney won The Barclays Sunday at Bethpage Black on Long Island, N.Y., shooting 10 under par for the tournament and one under par for Sunday. Sergio Garcia held the lead after 54 holes, but couldn't close out the title, which would have been his second in as many weeks.
Garcia shot four over par on the final day, bogeying three of four holes around the turn which was a catastrophic turn of events that wound up being too much to overcome. He also bogeyed the 18th hole, slipping into a tie with Dustin Johnson for third place at six-under, gifting Brandt Snedeker, comfortably in the clubhouse, an extra chunk of change.
The win was the first of 2012 for Watney, whose best previous finish was eighth place at the Wells Fargo Championship in May. He also secured his fourth top-10 finish, doing so in fairly consistent fashion. His round-by-round scores: 65-69-71-69.
