Philadelphia Eagles Roster Cuts: Eagles Get Down To 75

NFL teams have until 4pm today to trim their roster down to 75. The Philadelphia Eagles cut 11 players over the weekend and with 4 more moves this afternoon are officially at 75.

Over the weekend the cuts were WR Elvis Akpla, S Wade Bonner, DE Xavier Brown, WR Brian Hernandez, WR McKay Jacobson, WR Tiger Jones, G Alfred McCullough, DB Tom Nelson, CB Kevin Thomas, OT Thomas Welch & CB Cliff Harris.

Today, the Eagles announced that LT Jason Peters (achilles) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list, DT Mike Patterson (head) was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list and G Mike Gibson was placed on IR (hip flexor).

WR Jamel Hamler was waived as the final cut. The Eagles will now have until Friday at 9pm to get down to 53 players for the regular season roster.

"We made a few cuts and it's all part of the process here and we've still got to make a few more," said head coach Andy Reid. "We appreciate the effort that the players have given us and the loyalty and the things they've done. Really there is going to be tougher ones and even more down the road here. The guys worked hard and I am hoping they catch on and have another opportunity with another football team."

One of the toughest places the Eagles will likely have to make cuts will be on the defensive line, where seemingly everyone has been a standout in preseason. Andy oddly likened his choice to sweet and sour pork...

"It's a little bit like sweet and sour pork: there's a sour side and a sweet side. The sour being that not everybody can make the team; the sweet is that you sure want that position to be strong. I think we're going to come out with good players. Unfortunately, somebody else is going to get some good players too. But that group has done a nice job."
