Eagles Roster Cuts 2012: Phillip Hunt Happy To Be Off The Bubble

Last season, when the Eagles signed Phillip Hunt away from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL, the defensive end was sweating it out on cutdown day. But not this season. After a fantastic training camp and a preseason where he's led the NFL in sacks & forced fumbles, Hunt is feeling much more secure.

"It's definitely a relief when you come out in the preseason and make plays," he said. "It's kind of easy on you stress-wise knowing I did all I could. I know I had a successful preseason and we'll let the chips fall where they may."

Heading into the fourth preseason game last year, Hunt knew he needed a strong performance to get himself a roster spot. And he did, with 3 tackles and a sack.

"Well last year we had a whole cast of guys like we do this year but last year I was new to the team. It was my first year so I had a lot more proving to do around this time. I was going into that game focused on [knowing] I have to make a play to stay around and that was my main focus. Just making plays during that game."

This season, Hunt will play sparingly if at all in the final preseason game. Just another perk of playing your way off the roster bubble.
