Union Vs. Crew Final Score: Philly Falls Late, 2-1

The Columbus Crew beat the Philadelphia Union, 2-1, in a thriller on Wednesday at PPL Park.

Columbus' Eddie Gaven scored the winning goal in stoppage time to dash the Union's hopes of at least earning a point. With the win, the Crew continues to creep closer to a playoff spot in the hotly contested Eastern Conference.

Making the loss even more disappointing, Philadelphia was a man up for the last 20 minutes of the match after Columbus defender Josh Williams was thrown out with a red card.

However, Williams made his time count early on, scoring his first career goal to tie the game after Carlos Valdes had staked the Union to an early advantage.

In the latter stages, Philadelphia had a bevy of chances but couldn't capitalize thanks to some sublime goalkeeping by Matt Lampson, who earned a victory in his MLS debut.

The Union will have another crack at breaking their five-game losing streak on Saturday when they oppose the New England Revolution.
