Eagles Vs Jets: Trent Edwards Makes Strong Case For Roster Spot In Win

During the post draft OTAs, Trent Edwards was little more than an afterthought. A spare part the Eagles picked up in the offseason to give the arms of the Eagles top 3 QBs a rest in training camp. Edwards had been out of football for a year and the reports on him were that his arm looked weak and he was out of sorts.

But he kept working and got a break when Eagles backup QB Mike Kafka broke his hand. Some say he was reborn as a quaterback, but Edwards disagrees.

"I don’t think I ever died," he said after last night's game. "I still feel as though I am making plays like I did in my rookie year and second year. I am seeing the field like I always have. I think I was just given some great opportunities here and that is what I am thankful for. I didn’t know if that would be the case here, but fortunately it worked out in my favor and whatever happens."

While Edwards may not have been reborn, it may be safe to say he's rehabbed as a QB, and he's not the first guy to flourish again under the combination of Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg.

"A big reason why I came here and was so excited to work out for this team in January was to play for these coaches and with these offensive weapons."

Edwards went 22-32 for 197 yards and 2 TDs against the Jets to cap off a strong preseason. The question now is whether its enough to unseat Mike Kafka for the #3 QB job. Even if he doesn't stay on here, Edwards may have done enough to at least catch on as a backup somewhere.
