2012 London Olympics: Matt Emmons Wins Bronze In The Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions

On Monday morning, the United States took home another medal.

This time, it was Philadelphia local Matt Emmons who earned the bronze in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions competition.

The Mount Holly, NJ born and Pemberton High School grad finished just behind Italy's Niccolo Campriani and South Korea's Kim Joing-hyun who received the gold and silver medals respectively.

Emmons overcame quite a bit to reach this point, and will now have his moment in the sun on the medal stand. The New Jersey man was afflicted with cancer and needed to have his thyroid removed. However, nothing could keep him from the 2012 Games, where he has competed at the highest of levels.

Currently, the United States sits second in the medal count with 60, trailing China by two for the overall lead. Great Britain is a distant third, with 37 medals to its credit.

South Korea and France round out the top five with 27 and 20 medals respectively.
