Team USA men's Basketball defeated Australia, 119-86, on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 London Olympics.
The game did not get out of hand until late and as a result, Philadelphia 76ers forward Andre Iguodala only played eight minutes. He had three points and a rebound off the bench.
The U.S. held a 56-42 halftime lead in the game before getting a scare in the third quarter. A Joe Ingles three-pointer with 8:32 left in the third quarter cut the U.S. lead to 56-53 as Australia started hot after the break. The U.S. then went on a 63-33 run for the rest of the game, including a 35-point fourth quarter, to put away Australia. The U.S. improved to 14-0 all-time against Australia in FIBA tournaments.
LeBron James led the way during the second half outburst, recording a triple-double (11 points, 11 assists, 14 rebounds). Kobe Bryant also caught fire with 20 points in 20 minutes, including six three-pointers. Bryant led the U.S. with his 20 points. Deron Williams had 18 points and Carmelo Anthony chipped in 17 points. Patrick Mills led Australia with 26 points. Ingles finished with 19 points for Australia.
The win over Australia sets up a Group A rematch against Argentina for Team USA on Aug. 10 in the semifinals. The U.S. defeated Argentina in Group A play, 126-97, on Aug. 6.
