Houston Dynamo Vs. Philadelphia Union Final Score: Freddy Adu Brace Leads Union In 3-1 Win

The Union defeated the Dynamo, 3-1, on Sunday at PPL Park. Freddy Adu scored two goals for the Union in the victory.

The Philadelphia Union defeated the Houston Dynamo, 3-1, on Sunday at PPL Park. With the win the Union tied the season series at one win apiece. Philadelphia also snapped a franchise record eight-game losing streak.

Union midfielder Freddy Adu scored a brace with goals in the 28th and 50th minutes of the match around a 44th minute goal by Houston Designated Player Boniek Garcia. Josue Martinez added the insurance goal for the Union in the 70th minute after cleaning up a loose ball in the penalty area.

Adu's first goal came as a result of an attack run into the penalty area. A cross couldn't be handled cleanly by Adu or the Dynamo and Adu recovered the ball and slipped the ball past a defender and Houston goalie Tally Hall. Garcia tied the match with a rocket of a shot off the far post from inside the penalty area. Adu scored from the penalty spot on his second goal when he sent Hall the wrong way. Sheanon Williams was taken down by Houston's Andre Hainault inside the area to set up the penalty kick. Adu had to be replaced after the 57th minute with a hip injury. No official status on the injury has been given by the team.

The Union staved off mathematical elimination from the playoffs with the victory. Philadelphia will play their next match on the road against the Columbus Crew on Sept. 29.
