2012 U.S. Open: Rain Suspends Day Session

Rain suspended play at the U.S. Open on Tuesday, effectively ending the day session. Tuesday's featured match between No. 20 Andy Roddick and No. 7 Juan Martin del Potro is still scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. EST in Arthur Ashe Stadium if the rain lets up. This could be the last match of Roddick's career, as he will retire at the end of the U.S. Open.

The only singles match that was completed was on the women's side, as top-seed Victoria Azarenka defeated defending champion No. 7 Samantha Stosur, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5). Azarenka will advance to face the winner of the match between No. 3 Maria Sharapova and No. 11 Marion Bartoli. Bartoli was leading 4-0 in the first set when play was suspended, but that match will not be resumed until Wednesday.

In the men's bracket No. 4 David Ferrer was not able to complete his match against No. 13 Richard Gasquet before the day session was suspended. Ferrer leads the Frenchman, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2), 4-3 and is up 30-15 in a Gasquet service game. The two will attempt to complete their match during the evening session.

The revised schedule of play for Tuesday evening can be found here.
