Andy Roddick was finally sent into retirement Wednesday, as the American tennis star lost to No. 7-seeded Juan Del Potro, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4, in a Round of 16 match at the 2012 U.S. Open. Roddick, the No. 20 seed, left the court of Arthur Ashe Stadium to a chorus of cheers from the American crowd.
After waiting through Tuesday's rain delay, Roddick's finale started off with a first-set victory, 7-6, as he won the tiebreaker with ease, 7-1. Roddick had a chance to take command of the match when the second set went to a tiebreaker, but Del Porto finally found his rhythm and tied the contest at one set apiece.
From there, Del Potro was too much for the 30-year-old Roddick as he rolled into the quarterfinals where he will face No. 2 Novak Djokovic.
