The first round of the 2012 BMW Championship, the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoff, is in the books. There's a four way tie atop the leaderboard, with Rory McIlroy, Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt, and Graham DeLaet tied at 8-under par. McIlroy was paired with Tiger Woods, and both Woods and Vijay Singh are a stroke back at 7-under. Woods had nine birdies with only a pair of bogies en route to his 65, while Singh finished on a tear shooting 7-under for the final ten holes.
Ryan Palmer, Ryan Moore, and Luke Donald all shot 66 to finish two stokes back at 6-under, and there's a crowd of six players including Zach Johnson only a stroke behind them.
Some other big names that are around the top of the leaderboard include Ernie Els at 4-under and Phil Mickelson at 3-under. Mickelson had a good start to the round, but struggled down the stretch. Westchester native Jim Furyk is even with Mickelson at 3-under.
