Should the Phillies pursue Cody Ross?

In the last decade, Cody Ross has played for six different franchises.

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to sign at least one outfielder this offseason, and Cody Ross may fit the bill. The 31-year-old veteran hit 22 home runs in 130 games for the Boston Red Sox in 2012. Jim Salisbury at CSNPhilly suggests that the Phillies should do all they can to grab him, but it may not be that simple.

The Red Sox are very interested in re-signing Ross, and they can offer him a significant raise from his $4 million contract last season. Boston will have extra cash to spend now that they're free from the constraining contracts of Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford.

Here's what Salisbury thinks of Ross:

A player like Ross would not be the Phillies' primary offseason target. The Phils need an everyday centerfielder and while Ross can and has played the position, his best fit is as a corner outfielder. He played mostly right field in Boston. Ross hits right-handed and the Phillies are in need of right-handed pop. He would be a tremendous fit at one of the corner spots if the Phils were to land a centerfielder such as B.J. Upton or Angel Pagan.
