FCS Coaches Poll Week 9: Villanova Up A Spot To #5

The FCS coaches top 25 poll for Week 9 of the college football season is out and the news was good and bad for the local teams. Villanova crept up a spot from no. 6 to no. 5 after its victory against James Madison on Saturday, but its rise came at the expense of Delaware, who fell four spots out of the number two position after their loss to #4 William & Mary.

Penn is the only other local in the top 25, it jumped up two spots to no. 21 this week after its 27-20 win at Yale. Next up for the Quakers is a battle for Ivy League supremacy with league co-leaders Brown. Both teams are 3-0 in Ivy league play.

Villanova has a big game next week as it hosts no. 14 Richmond. The Wildcats' win over Richmond last season was perhaps their signature win. Richmond, who were the defending FCS champs, were stunned in the final minute when Villanova’s Brandyn Harvey made a one-handed grab of Chris Whitney’s fourth-down pass for a 29-yard touchdown. The game ended in a 21-20 Nova win.

Currently, Appalachian St. holds the top spot in the FCS coaches top 25 poll.
