Joe Paterno's once great legacy has taken yet another major hit. The Big Ten now says that hall of fame coach who has won more games than any other, is not fit to have his name on their championship trophy. The trophy, previously called "the Stagg-Paterno Championship" will now just be called the Stagg Championship Trophy.
↵"We believe that it would be inappropriate to keep Joe Paterno's name on the trophy at this time," Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said in a statement to NBC. "The trophy and its namesake are intended to be celebratory and aspirational, not controversial. We believe that it's important to keep the focus on the players and the teams that will be competing in the inaugural championship game."
↵Paterno was fired by Penn State last week in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal. Many have alleged that Paterno did not to do enough to stop the abuse when he was made aware of it.
