In just 10 days, the Penn State football program will play the University of Houston in the 2012 TicketCity Bowl in Dallas, TX, and the news is that not many Nittany Lion fans will be attending the postseason contest that will be played at the historic Cotton Bowl.
"Penn State expects about 4,000 of its allotment of 6,000 tickets to be purchased," Bud Meredith, Penn State’s director of ticketing operations, told StateCollege.com Thursday.
On Wednesday, SB Nation Houston published a blog post that focused on how little inspiration Nittany Lion players have for playing in the two-year-old bowl that is played in a stadium which could feature a capacity crowd of around 92-thousand. Penn State finished its regular season at 9-3, while the Cougars ended their regular-season schedule at 12-1/
"I think if we get mid-40s, we’d be happy," said Monty Clegg, ticket manager for the 2-year-old bowl. "That’ll be tough. If you want to know the truth."
According to Clegg, last year's TicketCity Bowl, which featured Northwestern and Texas Tech, sold about 42,000 tickets.
"Through Penn State, tickets cost $75. As of Thursday, however, fans could buy tickets on StubHub for as low as $20. Meredith said Penn State will essentially cut off sales on Dec. 30, the Friday before the game."
