Joe Schad of ESPN reports that New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator and play-call, Bill O'Brien, will be a candidate for the vacant Penn State coaching job.
Pats OC/play caller Bill O'Brien is a Penn State candidate if Munchak does not happen.
O'Brien is a free agent at the end of the NFL season and has also been rumored to be a potential head coaching candidate in the NFL, with the Kansas City Chiefs specifically.
In an offseason in which seven teams or more could be interviewing head-coaching candidates, and at a time when there are fewer "hot coordinators" than normal, O'Brien's stock is on the rise. Playoff success with the Patriots would only boost his profile.
O'Brien received some national spotlight when he engaged in a shouting match with Tom Brady earlier this season.
