Penn State interim head coach announced Sunday that quarterback Matt McGloin will not play Monday in the 2012 Ticket City Bowl against the Houston Cougars (Noon on ESPNU). According to Ted Baird of the Scranton Times-Tribune, McGloin failed a a series of concussions Saturday and that if he could not go then backup Rob Bolden would start in his place. Third-stringer and walk-on junior, Shane McGregor, will serve as the Nittany Lion backup.
For about a month now, McGloin's playing status for the Tickety City Bowl has been uncertain after an altercation between him and wide receiver Curtis Drake that left him with a concussion.
The loss of McGloin is another one for a program that is already having depth issues, as quarterback Paul Jones, defensive back Derrick Thomas, wide receiver Curtis Drake and wide receiver Shawney Kersey all were listed as out Tuesday.
