The Penn State Nittany Lions coaching search has been going on since November. It might be coming to a close as New England Patriots' offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is reportedly the leading candidate for the job (via ESPN Boston).
O'Brien and the school are thought to be meeting during the Patriots' upcoming bye week to try to hammer out a deal. O'Brien is in the final year of his contract with New England.
He played college football at Brown, as did former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno. O'Brien has not coached in the college ranks since 2005-2006 when he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Duke. He has been with the Patriots since 2007.
