Penn State Recruiting 2012: The Nittany Lions Miss Out On Demetrious Cox

Demetrious Cox, a consensus four star recruit, has committed to the Michigan State Spartans on National Signing Day 2012. Cox, who played for Jeannette High School in Jeannette, PA, chose Michigan State over Penn State, Ohio State and Wisconsin, the other finalists for his services.

This comes as a tough break for Bill O'Brien and the Nittany Lions. Losing an in-state recruit always hurts, but even more this year because of all of the issues surrounding the university. Signing players from nearby is Penn State's best bet this year, and Cox was a big fish.

The 6'2'', 192 pound Cox will be playing safety for the Spartans. He was the top unsigned athlete coming into the day from Pennsylvania and the ultimate hope for many Nittany Lions fans today.

It's been a down year in recruiting for Penn State, which has to be expected after all that has gone on between the Jerry Sandusky scandal and the coaching upheaval.

The class was ranked 46th coming into the day by rivals.com but hasn't done anything to move up on National Signing Day.
