The 3-seed Delaware Blue Hens appeared to be headed to the Sweet 16 through the first 20 minutes of Tuesday night's second round 2012 NCAA Women's Tournament game against the Kansas Jayhawks, taking a six-point lead into halftime. They had no answer for Angel Goodrich, however, who scored 16 of her 27 points in the second half to lead the Jayhawks to a 70-64 win.
Elena Delle Donne was once again magnificent for the Blue Hens, scoring 34 points and adding 10 rebounds in a losing effort. Though she shot 9-for-18 from the field, her teammates shot just 12-for-38 from the floor, or 31.6 percent, for the game. Donne did struggle for long range, making just 1-of-5 3-point attempt in a 2-for-14 team effort.
Meanwhile, the Jayhawks made 50 percent of their shots from the floor, and 6-of-16 from beyond the arc to overcome a 40-30 rebounding advantage for the Blue Hens. Also chipping a solid effort from Kansas was Aishah Sutherland, with 12 points and a game-leading 11 rebounds.
With the win, the Jayhawks advance to the Sweet 16 to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.
