Just hours before the Philadelphia 76ers are set to end their season-opening, five-game road trip at the New Orleans Hornets, Philly is rumored to be in talks about trading center Marreese Speights to the Memphis Grizzles in a three-team deal also involving the Hornets. According to ESPN's Marc Stein (via Twitter), Speights would be sent to Memphis, the Grizzles would ship shooting guard Xavier Henry to the Hornets, while the 76ers would gain two future NBA Draft picks.
So for this season, Speights, who showed up to training camp out of shape, hasn't seen the floor because of his strenuous relationship with the coaching staff, especially head coach Doug Collins, who has elected to play rookie Nikola Vucevic over the four-year veteran.
The trade gets rid of a problem in the 76ers locker room and fills a void for the Grizzles, who lost center Darrell McArthur for the season after he tore his ACL.
In 2008, the 76ers drafted Speights as the 16th overall pick.
