The Philadelphia 76ers had a tough call to make on the eve of NBA free agency: extend a qualifying off to shooting guard Jodie Meeks and take a 3.3 million cap hit, or let the youngster walk.
They choose the latter option, according to CSNPhilly.com.
Meeks will hit the market as an unrestircted free agent after being the only Sixer to play in every game last year, including starting 50 games. With Lou Williams leaving in all likelyhood, Philadelphia will have to be active in free agency when it comes to guards. Right now, the only dependable guards on the roster are Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner.
Meeks has some ability, but hasn't been able to make things happen consistently, thus the reason he saw diminished time when the postseason rolled around.
In the same vein, the Sixers also decided against giving qualifying offers to Sam Young and Xavier Silas.
