NBA Free Agency 2012: Elton Brand Claimed Off Amnesty Waivers By Dallas Mavericks

Former Philadelphia 76ers forward Elton Brand has been claimed by the Dallas Mavericks off amnesty waivers, according to a report (Adrian Wojnarowski).

The Sixers released Brand on Wednesday via the amnesty clause in the new NBA collective bargaining agreement. Philadelphia still has to pay out the final $18.2 million owed to Brand. The only teams eligible to claim Brand were those who were already under the salary cap. He would have been an unrestricted free agent if he had cleared waivers. The amount of the bid by the Mavericks for Brand is not known at this time.

Last season, Brand averaged 11.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 blocks per game for the Sixers in 28.9 minutes per contest. In the playoffs, he averaged 8.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
