Eagles LB Ernie Sims Calls Fine "Outrageous" Plans To Appeal

Philadelphia Eagles LB Ernie Sims called the $50,000 fine handed down to him by the NFL “outrageous” and says he plans to lodge an appeal.

“I really, really hate the fact that I got fined $50,000,” he said. “I don’t care how much money you make, that’s a ton of money, money I worked hard for my whole life. Just for anybody to take it away from me for something that I do on the field, I just think it’s crazy. But this is the league that I play in and I’ve got to respect that, so I’m just going to go out there and keep playing football.”

Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott was asked whether he had any plans to talk to his players about hitting what the NFL has termed “defenseless receivers”

“We respect everything that comes down from the league obviously. That said, I want our players aggressive. Is there a fine line there between aggressive and not being a smart player? Yes. And we have to make sure we find that line so we don’t hurt the team.”

“As an overall defense from a philosophical standpoint we want to be a aggressive, but you have to be smart. You have to be smart and you have to know how they’re calling things. And that’s a general way to answer your question but that’s how we’ve addressed it with the players, is be aggressive, remain aggressive. But also play within the rules and be smart.”
