Michael Vick Injury: Eagles Not Ruling Out QB For Sunday

Speaking at his Wednesday press conference today Eagles coach Andy Reid would not rule out Michael Vick for this Sunday’s game against the Giants, despite the QB breaking two ribs in last week’s game against the Cardinals. Reid was asked about the severity of Vick’s injury.

“There all a little bit different in different places.” Reid said “At times the player will feel the rubbing going on with the ribs. Michael doesn’t have that right now. We’ll just see. We take it day by day and we’ll see how it all works out.”

Third string QB Mike Kafka, who has a chance to start this weekend, says he wouldn’t count out Vick for this weekend either.

“Vick is a tough guy and I wouldn’t expect anything less. He has a couple of broken ribs, so I’m assuming that has to hurt. I’ve never had any broken ribs so I can’t speak for him. He is a tough guy and he hides it pretty well if he is in any pain.”

Kafka took a few snaps with the first team today, but the majority were taken by Vince Young, who is the favorite to start this weekend if Vick can’t go. Asked whether or not the uncertainty at QB affects their preparation for this weekend, WR Jason Avant says their focus is no different than any other week.

“Well, we’re going to go out there and prepare like we do every week." Avant said "We just have to go out there and execute, wide receivers and tight ends, and help whoever’s back there with our o-line and other people. So we have to go out and, no matter who’s there, play the best we can for them.”
