Donovan McNabb will reportedly be released from the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, perhaps giving the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback new life as an NFL signal-caller.

McNabb had his job seized by rookie Christian Ponder in Minnesota, but could presumably be desirable to at least a couple potential playoff teams currently experiencing injury issues.

Caleb Hanie started for Chicago this weekend and completed 18 of 36 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in a loss to the Oakland Raiders.

The Houston Texans are another playoff contender in need of a quarterback. The Texans were already down to backup quarterback Matt Leinart, but Leinart went down this weekend and rookie T.J. Yates took over. The Texans have already added NFL veteran Jake Delhomme
