Eagles QB Kevin Kolb is entering the final year of his contract. At the same time, it looks like the Eagles are poised to make a long-term commitment to Michael Vick as their starter. Kolb has clearly stated his desire to be a starting QB, so it seems likely that the team will look to deal Kolb for something of value before he walks away next year. While doing press at the Super Bowl, Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald endorsed Kolb has his top choice to be the Cards' starting QB next season. This week, Kolb spoke to Howard Eskin and Ike Reese about what Fitzgerald said and his future in general.
"If he's not the best than he's one of the best WR's in the NFL, a superstar, for a guy like that to say something about me it means a lot. Awful flattering and if something happens I hope their name comes up."
Kolb flatly states that if he's traded, Arizona is a place he wouldn't mind going. It makes a lot of sense since Arizona isn't that bad a landing spot for a young QB. So often these guys end up with awful teams, devoid of any talent to help and get washed out of the league or relegated to career backup status. While the Cardinals weren't very good this year, they've got some talent on offense to work with and aren't far removed from being a competitive team. While he made it clear he wants the chance to start, Kolb says that you're not going to see him out there demanding a trade.
"I've always had a good relationship with the Eagles and I think they see where I'm coming from. It's not really in my makeup to go out there and make a stink about things. I try to be as professional as possible and see both sides. I truly believe that they're going to try to do what's best for myself and the team. If that doesn't work out, obviously I won't be happy about it but in my opinion it won't be their fault if it doesn't work out. I think it'll be because of the CBA not getting done. So if I get put in those shoes just like I've done in the past and just like you have to do in this league... just roll with the punches and say 'my turn's comin up." And you never know what's going to happen with Mike. We talk about this every week, he runs around a lot so you've always got to be ready to play. We learned that this year... so if it comes up that way then I'll go with it and make it work but obviously I want to be starting somewhere and be No. 1."
