the guys over at SB Nation just came out with the latest edition of their 2011 NFL Mock Draft, and they have the same guy going to the Eagles that they have had for the last few weeks. They seem to have fallen in love with the notion of the Eagles taking Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith. Here is their rationale.
Some of the perceived attitude issues plaguing Smith's draft stock are beginning to be shrugged aside - and as such, Smith might go earlier than most anticipate. Right now, Philly seems like the basement of his draft-day potential.
People tend to forget about those character issues as the first round progresses and the player in question becomes better value. Smith has all the tools to be a very good cornerback at the next level, and a few character concerns might not prevent him from getting there. The Eagles have shown that they don't mind taking a chance on a talented prospect with character concerns (Jackson, DeSean), so projecting Smith to go in this spot is not too much of a reach. The only question now is whether or not he'll be on the board for the Eagles to pick.
