The Eagles selected Danny Watkins, an offensive lineman from Baylor, that actually hails from British Columbia, Canada. He's one of just four Canadians to ever be taken in the first round of the NFL draft. And of course, as a Canadian, he loves hockey. In fact, he said that hockey was his first love and played it as a youngster. At 6-3 and well over 200 pounds as a kid, he admitted that he wasn't much of a scorer, but instead focused on the "finer points" of hockey. In other words, he liked to mix it up. In fact, his two front teeth are fake thanks to his days as a hockey player.
↵Although he admitted that he's a Canucks fan, I asked him who he was picking between the Flyers and Bruins in the second round of the NHL playoffs.
↵"I'm gonna go with the Flyers" he said with a chuckle. "I have to!"
↵When Watkins was asked what he knew about the city of Philadelphia, he said used to to watch Eric Lindros growing up.
↵"When I was growing up I always used to watch Eric Lindros when he was a Flyer and I loved them for that. I never at any point in my life, well except in the past year I was hoping, but I never thought I'd be going to Philadelphia to play a professional sport.
